ISTE standards for using technology states that students should use technology for critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making. The standard specifically states, “Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.” When creating my online learning adventure, I used critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research that would useful to my learners. My online users use the same critical not to create a learning adventure, but when completing some of the activities One example of this is where I have my learners use YouTube videos and a comparison chart to perform research and use critical thinking to compare and contrast the videos they choose to watch. My learners in the adventure also use digital tools and resources to manage projects.

Part A of the standard states, “Identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation.” My learning adventure confronts the controversial topic of homelessness and provides essential questions to guide learners through the assignments

Part B states, “Plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project.” This part of the critical thinking standards is performed using YouTube video assignment, online statistical date, and online awareness games. Lastly, students will complete a final project using everything learned.

Part C states, “Collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions>” My hope with this adventure is that learners will be able to form an educated opinion  and think more critically regarding the causes of homelessness and see how this issue is relevant and important

Lastly part D states, “Use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions.” I believe I did my best to include a wide range of sources, videos, and statistics that represent different political, religions, racial, and other affiliations

My personal opinion: Technology has its limitation concerning critical thinking. With the wide range of unchecked and biased videos and information made easily available on YouTube and social media , people are learning biased falsified information as the truth and this is preventing critical thinking. This is a major problem when navigating social issues social issues like homelessness, but also political issues such as who to vote for. Thought technology can enable people from thinking critically, it can also be a huge aid to critical thinking as well. For technology to be useful for critical thinking, the aforementioned standards have to be followed and the technology needs to be used in the right way. My hope is that schools will start teaching children how to use technology for critical thinking and after children  can show their parents, co-workers etc.
